Arch at Kabah

Arch at Kabah

Location
:  Kabah, Yucatan

Description:  A roadway connects the Mayan cities of Kabah to Uxmal.  At the end of the road way at the entrance to Kabah exists an arch, or gate.  Regarding this gate, Honore states, “The most remarkable thing in the city is a big gate, standing completely on its own, unconnected with any building.  Such gates are a very common feature in the New Empire; they are all constructed after the principle of the so-called false arch, i.e. by making two piles of stones slope toward each other.  They are exactly like the false arches of Mycenae ….” [22]  Mycenae is an ancient site in Greece.
