Lotus Blossoms at Chichen Itza Ball Court

Lotus Blossoms at Chichen Itza Ball Court

Location
:  Chichen Itza (chee-chen eet-zah), Yucatan

Description:  The ball court at Chichen Itza has carvings of the lotus blossom.  The lotus blossom was sacred to the Egyptians.  Mysteries of the Ancient Americas notes, “Among other provocative bits of ‘evidence’, Smith cited a ball court in … Chichen Itza with its running motif of lotus blossoms, which was a traditional design in Egyptian art.” [5]  This implies an eastern influence or heritage of those that dwelled in ancient Central America.
