From Zion’s Advocate Volume 100, Number 4
The Council of Apostles would like to report their missionary efforts in Poland. It began about a year ago. A contact came to our webpage from a man in his mid-twenties who was interested in the church. He had previously received and read an LDS copy of the Book of Mormon. He believed in the Book of Mormon but was not satisfied that the LDS doctrines were all scriptural so he began looking, which led him to the Church of Christ. Apostle Smith Brickhouse reached out to this man and was eager to help him learn more about our history, doctrines, and how we differ from other churches. The man was very receptive and had a great desire to be baptized.
Apostle Brickhouse passed the information on to the missionaries in charge of Europe. Apostle Brian McIndoo made virtual contact and arranged a trip to meet the man in person and perform a baptism if deemed appropriate.
On August 29th, 2023, Apostles Duane Ely and Brian McIndoo set forth to Poznan, Poland. From there they would take a train to the town of Gorzow Weilkopolski, where they would meet with him. Without knowledge of Poland, its train system, or its language, this trip at times could be defined as Apostle Paul spoke of his travels recorded in 2 Corinthians chapter 4, “We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair….”
Having God’s blessings and answers to their prayers in times of perplexity, they arrived at the determined location and had a few enjoyable days with the man. He exhibited the faith and desire to be numbered among the believers who are firm in the truth of God’s written word. A baptism service was planned for Sunday, September 3rd. Unfortunately, the man is a member of their armed forces reserves and was deployed without notice. He remained away for the balance of the time the missionaries were there. Hopefully, a follow-up visit will bring forth the fruit all who were involved desired.
