Description: At Chichen Itza, there is a large temple designated as the Temple of Kukulcan (ko-kol-kan). Kukulcan is the Mayan name for the bearded white God. The book In Quest of the White God notes, “The legend of a particular White God has survived to our day from all the ancient civilizations of Central and South America. The Toltecs and Aztecs of Mexico call him Quetzalcoatl, the Incans called him Viracocha. To the Maya he was Kukulcan who brought them all their laws, also their script, and was worshiped like a god by the entire people.” [6] Old Civilizations of the New World notes, “Probably the best known and most famous of the Aztecs’ gods was the ‘Plumed Serpent’ or Quetzalcoatl…. There are many myths and legends connected with Quetzalcoatl, but all agree that he was a white stranger with a flowing beard.” [7]
